The 4-star Gran Hotel Costa del Sol is a modern property that opened in April 2003. It is situated on level ground, on the beach, about 500 metres from the centre of La Cala de Mijas village, and about 24 kilometres from the old inland village of Mijas. From La Cala de Mijas there are public buses along the coastal road to Marbella (25 kilometres away) and to Fuengirola (10 kilometres away).
